Frank London Ensemble & Ben Stapp - Electronics Series

LOOVE Annex is pleased to present a very special double bill featuring FRANK LONDON's electronics trio joined by KNOX CHANDLER and BEN STAPP, and a BEN STAPP solo set this February 8th at 6PM.

Frank London, called the “mystical high priest of Avant-Klez jazz,” and longtime member of the Klezmatics, has been a cornerstone of New York City’s vibrant music scene for over 30 years, seamlessly blending Jazz, Balkan Brass, Klezmer and countless innovative offshoots. A Grammy Award–winning trumpeter and composer, London has performed and recorded with John Zorn, Pink Floyd, Mel Tormé, Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy, LaMonte Young, Gal Costa, They Might Be Giants, David Byrne, Itzhak Perlman, and is featured on over 500 albums.

Knox Chandler’s career has spanned more than four decades, beginning in New York City’s post-punk/new wave era of the early 1980s. He emerged as an instrumentalist, composer, and string arranger, collaborating across a wide range of projects. His career has included stints as a member of The Psychedelic Furs, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the Cyndi Lauper band. Chandler spent a decade living in Berlin, Germany, where he explored sound-scaping and developed a technique he calls Soundribbons. He has recorded and performed this work in its own right, as well as applying it across different genres and artistic mediums.

The music of composer and tubist Ben Stapp combines avant garde and traditional sounds with abstract narrative arriving at something truly his own. Stapp has cultivated his sound from extensive experience as a performer in many styles including collaborations and recordings with William Parker, Ray Anderson’s Pocket Brass Band, Steven Bernstein’s Universal Melody Brass Band, Frank London, Steve Swell, Tony Malaby, Hank Robertson, Stephen Haynes, American Composers Orchestra, the International Contemporary Ensemble, Red Barrat, ECCE Ensemble, and TILT.
