Hermeto Pascoal

Hermeto Pascoal (b. 1936) is a legendary Brazilian composer, multi-instrumentalist, and improviser known for his boundary-defying fusion of jazz, Brazilian folk, avant-garde, and experimental music. Often called “O Bruxo” ("The Wizard"), Pascoal is celebrated for his use of unconventional instruments—including teapots, toys, and water—and for turning everyday sounds into rich, complex music. A collaborator of Miles Davis, Airto Moreira, and countless others, Pascoal’s work is deeply rooted in both regional Brazilian traditions and global improvisational forms. Visionary, playful, and deeply original, he remains one of the most inventive voices in modern music.
