Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (1929–2000) was a pioneering singer and performer known for his theatrical, larger-than-life stage presence and powerful, raw vocal style. Blending blues, R&B, and early rock ‘n’ roll, Hawkins is best remembered for his iconic hit “I Put a Spell on You.” His eccentric performances, complete with macabre props and wild costumes, helped shape the shock-rock and psychedelic scenes that followed. Hawkins’ unique blend of horror theatrics and soulful music made him a cult legend and a major influence on many genres.
