For a long period in the 80s and 90s, it seemed as if you couldn’t find a great jazz album that didn’t have John Hicks on it, with classics by David Murray, Oliver Lake, Pharoah Sanders, just to begin with. In the middle of all this, he made a string of wonderful solo albums. This is one of the best.
