Marcelo Pérez is a Salvadoran-American drummer, percussionist, composer, and educator from Berkeley, CA. He received a Bachelor’s in Music from the University of Miami and a Master’s in Music from the New England Conservatory. Pérez has studied and played with Dafnis Prieto, Billy Hart, and Bob Moses, and has worked professionally for Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ran Blake, John Daversa, Oscar Stagnaro, John Hart and Dann Zinn. Through extensive travels in Cuba and Brazil, Pérez has learned and absorbed numerous Latin American drumming styles into his percussion and composition; his sound is heavily influenced by jazz, Afro-Cuban, and Afro-Brazilian music. Marcelo Pérez plays drums on Seńor Groove’s Little Havana on Zoho Records. Perez has performed internationally at the Sani Jazz Festival (Greece), Panama Jazz Festival, and Havana Jazz Festival. He resides in Oakland, CA where he plays in numerous jazz and fusion bands and teaches music.
