SEXMOB
Sexmob is a genre-defying jazz quartet led by slide trumpeter Steven Bernstein, known for their playful and irreverent approach to both jazz standards and pop culture reinterpretations. Emerging from New York’s downtown scene in the mid-1990s, the group—which includes Briggan Krauss (saxophone), Tony Scherr (bass), and Kenny Wollesen (drums)—infuses groove, free improvisation, and avant-garde sensibilities into everything from Prince to James Bond themes. With a sound that blends traditional jazz with funk, experimental, and noise elements, Sexmob’s music is both humorous and deeply musical. They’ve released records on labels like Knitting Factory, Ropeadope, and Thirsty Ear, becoming staples of the creative jazz underground.
