Brittany Anjou plays the SHAGGS

Brittany Anjou—Brooklyn-based pianist, composer, vibraphonist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist—brings the universe of The Shaggs to Loove Annex this November the 14th, live at 7:30pm!

In 2012, Anjou began performing with members of the legendary outsider band and helped form, record, and tour The Dot Wiggin Band, serving as co-vocalist and keyboardist on their Alternative Tentacles album Ready! Get! Go! She later joined Dot and Betty Wiggin onstage at Wilco’s 2017 Solid Sound Festival at Mass MoCA, standing in on bass and vocals for only their second performance together in more than 46 years.

A true co-conspirator and facilitator for the Wiggin sisters, Anjou has spent years immersing herself in the music’s cryptic logic—its shifting meters, unexpected melodies, and defiant sense of time and tuning. For this special evening she premieres her own intimate interpretation of The Shaggs’ multidimensional sound philosophy, distilled to piano with alternate tunings. Expect a rare, personal re-imagining of songs that have fascinated and divided listeners for decades, from the cult classic Philosophy of the World to later Dot Wiggin material, filtered through the hands of a modern Shagg.
