New OLDUVAI Music
The evening of Saturday, October 25th, marks the reconvening of New Olduvai Music at LOOVE Annex: promising spontaneous compositions merging extended techniques, electronics, and poetry -- a sonic dialogue across generations -- interweaving delicate atmospheres -- celebrating Philly's avant-garde legacy reborn in Brooklyn for one special night.
Named after Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, (the “Cradle of Mankind” where early humans first roamed) Olduvai emerged in mid-1970s Philly with Elliott Levin, Tom Rollison, Rick Iannacone, and Jim Richards, an experiment of free improvisation, sound poetry, and electronic-instrumentation.
Their album, originally recorded for Philadelphia’s TIWA* Records and independently released, solidified Olduvai’s underground reputation as a vital force in Philadelphia’s avant-garde scene.
