A deep community Rumba gathering at LOOVE Annex
Formed in 2019 by a diverse group of New York musicians, El Kikiriki Biquey focuses on educating, presenting and just plain getting down with RUMBA, here in the BK!
In Cuba, the word RUMBA! means “PARTY!”, a festive practice that includes music, dance, chants, gestures hand-clapping, and aims to connect people, regardless of their social and economic background, gender, or ethnicity!
As a style of music, RUMBA! is a style of Afro-Cuban music centered around syncopated drumming and singing. The music is meant to be pondered and analyzed- but overall, to be danced to.
Hope you’ll Join us for this gathering in clave, culture, and community.

(near McCarren Park’s weekly Farmers’ Market)

NOVEMBER 15 2024
Friday November 15 2 Sets @7:30, and 9:00
Join cornetist Stephen Haynes for a rare NYC appearance as he shares new and evolving music for brass and woodwind. Analogous to a front porch conversation between friends, framed in the context of free music practice. A generative response to recent events. Expect the unexpected.
Stephen Haynes is a modern master of expressive color, space and timbre. In this special all-acoustic presentation, Haynes will construct a living sound field with close colleagues Sam Newsome, a soprano sax pioneer whose PVC / soprano integration needs to be heard to be believed, tuba virtuoso Ben Stapp - known to control multiple tuba instruments simultaneously, extraordinary improvising trumpet player Kenny Warren, and Josh Roseman on tenor trombone and tuba.
Remarkably, Haynes is known to present the entire cornet family “in their own voice,” and this will be a unique occasion to hear the full range and shared tapestry of the brass family in a broad, collaborative environment.
With the possibility of TBA special guests on the second set.
Two sets, with doors opening at 7PM at the new LOOVE ANNEX, 238 North 12 St on McCarren Park in Williamsburg.
